Tim Janssen

I'm Tim Janssen and I am working since a few years for VDL Konings. From my previous education in metal technology, I rolled into the Manufacturing Industry. I have also worked for another employer in the past, but I couldn't develop myself well there, which is why I went looking for a new challenge. My position is Material Handler. This involves being responsible for moving, collecting, and booking the goods you receive. We also package the goods and ensure that all documentation is in order. Loading and unloading are also part of the job.

What does a typical workday look like for you?
When I arrive in the morning, I first turn on the computer to check and handle emails. It depends on the tasks assigned for the week:

  1. 1. Receipt/booking: This involves inspecting boxes or pallets, checking contents against packing slips, booking them administratively, and ensuring they are placed in the correct location.
  2. 2. Internal transport: Loading and unloading trucks.
  3. 3. Moving products to different machines/departments and restocking them.
  4. 4. Packaging and shipping: Ensuring products are packaged and shipped correctly, including preparing accompanying. documents and monitoring the mailbox for supplier pickups.
  5. 5. Order picking: Printing out pick lists or finding the correct order, then preparing KIT carts and ensuring the correct products are picked.

What qualities should an expedition employee have and why would you recommend a job as an expedition employee at VDL Konings?
Working at VDL Konings is challenging and diverse, and we have a great team. We regularly organize fun activities, which makes working at VDL Konings extra enjoyable. As an expedition employee, it is especially important to have insight, be able to reason logically, be stress-resistant, and have a solid administrative foundation. In my opinion, these are the most important qualities an expedition employee should possess.

What do you like most about your job and what are your biggest challenges?
This job is very diverse. Within our department, you have various tasks. Such as, among other things, registering products, loading and unloading trucks, and picking orders. I do this with great pleasure. At VDL Konings, we produce various types of machines for our customers in the markets: MedTech, Defence and Semicon. Due to the different weights and dimensions of such a machine, it is often a challenge to pick it up, move it, and load it. But this is what makes it fun to see how everything will fit.

What are your future plans at VDL Konings?
I've been working at VDL Konings for almost two years now, and I'm very satisfied with my position here. Looking ahead, I hope to further develop myself, specifically towards a leadership role within the Expedition department. I believe that there are plenty of opportunities for growth within VDL Konings, and I'm determined to continue expanding my skills and experience to achieve my career goals.
