How did you join VDL Konings?

I started at VDL Konings in 2018 as a cleaning assistant. After school, I would come to VDL Konings at 4:00 PM to carry out cleaning duties.

After obtaining my VMBO diploma, I started a level 3 vocational training programme (BBL). As my apprenticeship company, VDL Konings gave me the opportunity to begin working there in September 2018.

After that, I continued with a level 4 BBL programme. During this period, I specialized in welding robot programming. Eventually, I became responsible for all activities related to the welding robot. More recently, I have also taken responsibility for serial production within the welding department.

What makes your job interesting and what are your biggest challenges?

What I find most interesting about my job:

• Working with technology every day and improving production processes.
• Working with robotics and CAM software.
• Collaborating closely with great colleagues.
• Learning new things every day.

My biggest challenges are:

• Ensuring and maintaining quality standards.
• Making sure production runs according to schedule.
• Troubleshooting and resolving welding robot malfunctions.
• Solving any other issues that may arise.
• Ensuring that all necessary tools and materials are available.
• Introducing and programming new products on the welding robot.

What is VDL Konings like as an employer, and what do you enjoy about working there?

In my opinion, VDL Konings is a great employer. There is a positive working atmosphere, and I have the pleasure of working with many great colleagues.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

Our day starts at 7:15 AM. The first thing I do is walk through the welding department to greet everyone and check whether they have everything they need to carry out their work effectively.

Every morning, we briefly discuss the production schedule and any important updates. The rest of my day varies depending on the situation. My main responsibilities include ensuring production runs smoothly, solving any issues that arise, carrying out weld inspections, implementing improvements, and making sure all required materials are available.

I am also involved in evaluating the manufacturability of new products and helping to design any fixtures that may be required. No two days are the same, and that variety is exactly what makes my job so interesting.

My workday ends at 3:45 PM.
